Founded in 2018 at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt, the Solid Waste Management Center of Excellence (ESWMCE) operates at the interface of research and implementation, delivering practical, field-ready solutions for industry, public entities, and service providers.
Funded all technical equipment and capacity-building components required for applied solid waste management work. The Faculty of Engineering independently funded the Center’s infrastructure and building, ensuring long-term operational sustainability.
ESWMCE was established at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt. The Center was established through the STDF-CSE program
In March 2019, ESWMCE signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA), officially becoming its technical arm.
ESWMCE serves as the branch of the International Waste Working Group for the MENA Region (IWWG-MENARB) and continues to support national and international partners.
Our vision is for ESWMCE to be recognized as the leading nexus of innovation and expertise in waste management and environmental engineering. We strive to set new benchmarks for scientific research, advanced education, and strategic consultancy, empowering a sustainable and circular future throughout the Middle East and Africa.

Operating to the highest international standards across all dimensions of our organization.

Based at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, ESWMCE operates at the intersection of science, engineering, and real-world implementation.
We approach solid waste challenges not as isolated problems, but as opportunities to deliver practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
What makes ESWMCE unique is our integrated model. Under one roof, we combine consultancy services, engineering design, turnkey project delivery, applied research, accredited laboratory testing, teaching, and capacity building.
This structure allows us to move seamlessly from concept and design to pilot testing, full-scale implementation, and knowledge transfer—bridging the gap between research and practice.
Our work is driven by multidisciplinary teams of consultants, researchers, chemists, engineers, and technicians who collaborate in our laboratories and on-site, ensuring solutions are technically sound, implementable, and aligned with industry and public-sector needs.
ESWMCE is more than a research center. We are a delivery-oriented platform supporting infrastructure development, policy implementation, and capacity development across the solid waste management value chain—contributing to a cleaner, more resilient, and resource-efficient future.
Partner with ESWMCE to develop scalable, science-driven waste management solutions.
